No Agreement With NNPC On Payment Of Super Eagles’ Coach, Says NFF...
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said on Wednesday that it did not reach any agreement with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to sponsor the salaries of the incoming Super Eagles’ Head Coach.
A statement by Ademola Olajire, NFF’s Assistant Director of Communications, said in Abuja that the report of the agreement in some sections of the media was just an imagination from the writers.
The statement quoted Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, the Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee as saying that the $1.5 million reported to have been secured from the agreement was also untrue.
“The story is the figment of the imagination of the writers; nobody in the NFF or NNPC discussed the matter of salary of Eagles’ Coach and there is no iota of truth in it.
“Of course, we will be happy if the NNPC comes into Nigeria football as we are trying to attract more corporate bodies to the game.
“There has been no discussion between the NFF and NNPC over payment of the new Super Eagles’ Head Coach or technical crew,’’ the statement quoted Yahaya-Kwande as saying.
It said that the process for the appointment of a new Super Eagles’ Head Coach
was on with the NFF Technical and Development Committee having shortlisted some coaches for final interview.
The coaches are Nigerian Salisu Yusuf, Belgian Tom Saintfiet and Frenchman Paul Le Guen.
It said that the committee would interview the coaches on July 18, while announcement of the successful candidate would be made after a presentation to the NFF Executive Committee's
