OAU Students Protest School Closure On Social Media..
Olusola Babarinsa:
Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University on Wednesday took to Twitter to protest the continued closure of the institution.
The students began the social media and online campaign after The Association of Campus Journalists OAU made the call, in a statement signed by its PRO.
The statement reads in part, “We have sampled Students opinion and we know Students want to resume.
“We are dedicated to being the masses voice objectively and to this end will not shy away from our duties.
“Governing Council has not been constituted at the moment and with feelers we are getting, if students don’t speak out, delay may make the close shut for longer.
“With the current pace of events, if Students do not voice out, the break still has long days ahead.
“Join us on Twitter and Facebook as we take over the Social media with #ReopenOAU.”
The statement asked all OAU students to join the campaign and share their unpleasant experiences while at home.
The Punch reports that the management of the institution closed the school indefinitely in June after workers protested the appointment of Ayobami Salami as its Vice Chancellor.
Following several petitions by Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU) and the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), the Federal Government dissolved the school’s governing council. The dissolution came a week before students were to resumes.
