Lagos Woman In Court For Molesting Child..
A 24-year-old woman, Nwakaego Ugochukwu, was arraigned in Lagos on Tuesday for sexually molesting a five-year-old girl who was living at her residence.
The accused, who works as a factory worker, who resides at Canal Estate, Ago Okota, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge including sexual assault before Ikeja magistrates’ court.
The Prosecutor Inspector Eruada Victor told the court that the accused on May 5, 2016, took the child to her residence where she sexually assaulted the five-year-old girl.
According to the prosecutor, the woman, who lives on the same street with the girl, repeatedly dipped her fingers into the private part of the five-year-old girl and committed further carnal acts.
He added that the matter was reported to the police after the victim confessed to her parents that the accused inserted her fingers into her private parts and violated in.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 259 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos state.
Ugochukwu denied all the charges laid against her and protested her innocence.
The Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until June 15 for further hearing. If convicted, Ugochukwu could face a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
