A suspected female kidnapper has been beaten to stupor after she was allegedly caught trying to kidnap a school pupil in Lagos
The timely intervention of the police from the Owode Oniri division saved the suspect from being set abaze by the mob.
Angry that the police stopped them from killing the woman, the crowd moved to the police station threatening to set it on fire A suspected female kidnapper was stripped and almost set ablaze by an angry mob for allegedly trying to kidnap a school pupil in the Owode Oniri area of Lagos on Monday, May 16.
The Nation reports that the irate crowd beat the woman to stupor after she was allegedly caught in the act.
It was alleged that children have been missing in the neighbourhood for about a month, the last being a pupil of Wisdom School who was kidnapped not far from the school premises.
After the irate crowd beat the woman until she was bleeding, she confessed that she sold the last child she stole at Ilorin. Following the confession by the suspect, the crowd assembled fuel and tyres to set the suspect ablaze but policemen from the Owode Oniri division intervened and rescued the woman.
The intervention by the police infuriated the mob who attacked the police patrol van shattering the windscreen in the process. Angry that the police stopped them from killing the woman, the crowd moved to the police station threatening to set it on fire.
However the command acted quickly by stationing an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and several police vehicles on the road to disperse the crowd.
In another related incident, some gunmen have attacked the Kajola area of Ondo state over the weekend, kidnapping two reverend sisters alongside their driver.
While they were trying to fix the problem, their abductors reportedly swooped on them and whisked them to an unknown destination.
