Fulani herdsmen attack Olu Falae again, kill security guard

Ex presidential candidate, Chief Olu Falae has been reportedly attacked by some hoodlums suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

During the attack on the former Secretary General of the Federation (SGF) at his Ilado farm in Ondo state on Friday evening. Sahara Reporters reports that Moshood Raji, a personal assistant to Falae, made the clarifications on how they were attacked, adding that the guard’s body was found by a search party in a dam on the outskirts of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader’s farm two days after the incident had occurred.

He said: “These miscreants are Fulani herdsmen who invaded Olu’s farm located in the Ilado area of Akure last week on Tuesday and destroyed the crops like they did the last time our principal was abducted. “I was not around when the incident occurred, but other workers narrated to me how the Fulani herdsmen had initially trespassed with their cattle onto the land and were challenged by the security man.” While explaining that the intruders were armed with weapons, Chief Falae’s aide added that they “beat [the security guard] to a pulp.

“This was the same attitude and action these hoodlums displayed when Chief Falae was kidnapped for several days. Now they have killed one of us and for the second time destroyed our crops.” According to Sahara Reporters, it was gathered that the late guard, before his death, was a traditional local hunter and a member of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC).

Speaking also on the matter, a police source revealed that the matter was reported at a mobile police station close to the village before being transfered to the state police command in Akure, the Ondo state capital. A police source stated, “the case was reported here and our officers in charge immediately sent a signal to the State headquarters for further action.

“A search party was set up to look for the kidnapped hunter but unfortunately his dead body was found floating in a dam by the team compromising of the villagers and security personnel.” Meanwhile, local vigilantes in Ilado village have already declared war on the Fulani herdsmen, with a local saying: “Just prepare to write more stories about our village. We have declared war on these hoodlums who are using our village to perpetrate all forms of crime.

“This village used to be peaceful until they arrived here with their cattle and causing trouble. We can’t take this anymore in this village. I feel that our continuous silence over their nefarious activities allowed them to strike us for a second time in a deadly manner.” Only last month, Falae reportedly escaped death by the whiskers when he was on his way to Ile-Ife to meet other members of the pan Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere on a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The incident, according to him, occurred along Akure-Ilesha Express way as mobile policemen shot at his car at the Ile-Oluji junction. Falae was also kidnapped in his Akure home last year and detained for several days before being rescued by the security agents said: “When was I kidnapped that they want to kill me now?
